I love doing collaborations, so do not hesitate to inquire about it!
Here are answers to your frequently asked questions.
When is it likely that you will say YES to a collab?
When your profile is on brand for me! Fashion and editorial photography is my end game, and I’m always happy to connect with experienced runway and agency represented models to create a magazine editorial.
I also do content creation for small businesses and could always use diverse models of all genders, ages and sizes for these shoots (meaning, we would do a certain studio or lifestyle concept and use brand’s merch in the photos/videos). If you're okay with collaborating on branded content shoots (and brands using you likeness for their social media content and advertisement), this is another collaboration option.
Do I need to sign a model release?
Yes. Here is the link : www.capturedbybarbara.com/modelrelease
What if I have not heard back from you yet?
I’m saving all the collab inquiries. I receive dozens of collaboration inquiries per week and unfortunately time is limited. On average, I organize 1 branded content collab shoot per month (with multiple models). In case I haven’t responded within 1-2 months, and you really want to shoot with me, it’s best to book a session (also, check out my Photo Pop events www.capturedbybarbara.com/creative-shoots !). To book a session, reach out via email barbara@countercinemaproductions.com :)
We arranged to do a shoot. What’s next?
I will inquire about your dates, and maybe ask you to send me clothing options. I usually collaborate with multiple models at once and I will coordinate with the other models who may be involved. I will ask you to sign the model release prior to the shoot.
What do you expect from models for a collab?
(Sorry if this goes without saying for you)
• Sourcing amazing clothing for themselves (for magazine editorial shoots, unless we're doing a collab with a designer / stylist which will be mentioned in advance)
• Showing up camera ready. That means make-up (if there’s a make-up artist on board, still please bring your own foundation), hair and nails done in a presentable manner. Armpits and legs shaved, if your clothing shows them.
• Professional behavior (showing up on time and staying for the full duration of the session, having a proof of vaccination / covid test if that was required / don’t bring unannounced entourage, especially if we are shooting indoors and space is limited.)
• Crediting me (and every team member or vendor involved) in social media posts and stories.
What can models expect from a collaboration with you?
• Creative Direction
• Styling and posing direction
• Professional behavior (same as above)
• High end photography gear and lights
• Delivering professionally edited images
• Crediting you in social media posts and stories
• Having fun in the process! :)
Delivering the images:
I will deliver 2 fully retouched images per look per model (photographer's choice).
Why not more?
2 reasons:
• Image postproduction is a long process, and it takes me hours to fine tune the images.
• In my experience, 2 images per look are enough for most purposes (portfolio, social media, magazine editorials). Most people only end up using 1 image in their portfolio and post 1-2 images per look on social media.
What if I want more?
If you want more images, you're welcome to purchase them! Upon your request, I will upload the full lightly edited gallery for you to choose from! I will request a $75 fee to upload the preview gallery (the money can be used towards purchasing the images, and it serves to cover my time for the upload / light edit in case you don't end up purchasing more images). You’re welcome to purchase more images for $45/image (or $30 per image for 5+ images). That amount covers either the extra time I need to work on the images or allows me to outsource a professional retoucher.
But...Can I get the raw images?
No. :) I’ll take this explanation from a photographer Lindsey Roman:
“When you ask a photographer to give you their RAW photos, if they are a professional you’re most likely going to be met with a firm, hard no. That would be giving you only half of an unfinished work of art. Photographers spend so many hours fine tuning their photos to be edited in a way that reflects their style and gives their models/clients incredible images. By working with a photographer and then asking them to deliver their work unfinished, half complete, you aren’t receiving what they intended. More so, by asking your photographer for their RAW unedited photos it means you don’t trust them to deliver an edited image you’ll love. And honestly? If you don’t trust a photographer to deliver quality edited images you love, you probably don’t like their editing. Which begs the question, why are you working with them in the first place? Work with a photographer who’s style you DO love! I hope that helps clear some confusion on why us photographers won’t give out our RAW photos. It’s not to be mean. It’s not to be stingy. It’s because we value our art, and we want to give our models / clients / brands the full experience we know they’ll love, including our editing style.
How long does it take you do deliver the images?
Final images will be uploaded within 4 weeks after the shoot (frequently that period is shorter, but some months are busier than the others). In case we did a styled collaboration shoot for a magazine editorial, that period may be extended depending on the submission process (most magazines don’t want to publish images that have been in circulation on social media before).
How long will the images will be available online?
Your images will be available for 30 days.
What if I misplace the images?
Please save and backup your images. If you happen to misplace your images within 30 days after I have delivered the photos, you will still have the access to the link and can easily download them again. Once that time period has elapsed, if you need me to re-upload the images, a fee of $50 will be charged. I guarantee storing retouched images for 1 year from our shoot.
If you apply via this form, I assume that you are familiar with what I'm offering and asking for a collab shoot.
Thank you!
